Why Perimenopause Feels So Different For You—And How Human Design Explains It

If you've ever felt like perimenopause is hitting you harder than everyone else... you're not imagining it.

You’re exhausted—but wired.

You’re gaining weight even though you’re “doing everything right.”

You’re snapping at your partner, your kids, your coworkers—and then feeling awful about it.

You used to know how to hold it all together. Now? You can barely hold yourself together.

And when you're up at 3 am Googling advice to dig yourself out of this hell hole, nothing quite fits.

Take magnesium.

Try yoga.

Start journaling.

Hell, I've said these things to you!

But maybe you’ve already tried those things and you’re still stuck in a body (and a life) that feels like it doesn’t fit anymore.

So now what?

The Truth Is: Perimenopause Doesn’t Hit Everyone the Same

A lot of what you read about this phase of life treats women as if we’re all the same.

Underlying the bazillion ways to "treat" peri/menopause is the huge assumption that just because we are all women, then the prescriptions for what to do should work for all of us.

You are a woman, yes.

But you're not the same as everyone else.

You have a unique energy blueprint that determines how you process pressure, how you make decisions, and what you need to feel whole and vital.

That blueprint is your Human Design—and when you learn how to not only read it but USE it, then the chaos of perimenopause suddenly starts to make a lot more sense.

I talk all about this in Episode 57 of Midlife by Design. Listen in as I break down different parts of the chart as examples of what it has to say to you during peri/menopause.

Why This Feels Like a Breakdown But Is Actually an Invitation

One of my clients, Denise, said this to me on our first call:

“Something just feels off. I’m not even sure what I need—but I know it’s not this.”

She didn’t lead with “I’m unhappy.”

She led with vagueness and self-doubt, which is often how we’re conditioned to express dissatisfaction.

To be polite.

Palatable.

Vague enough to not offend.

But the truth was clear in her chart.

She had a wide-open ego center, which can show up as deep, gnawing feelings of unworthiness—and a tendency to overprove herself in work, relationships, and even healing.

She also had Channel 35-36: the emotional wave of change, restlessness, and the desire for new experiences.

And she was a Generator—a type that thrives when they’re lit up, engaged, and responding to life with joy.

Only… Denise was doing work that drained her.

She was stuck in a career that no longer matched who she was becoming.

The result?

Fatigue. Irritability. Emotional chaos. A body that had had enough.

Human Design Isn’t Just Insight—It’s an Instruction Manual

With Denise, we didn’t just look at the chart and nod (although listen, validation is a huge part of the work I do with clients).

We got curious.

We used her design to decode her burnout, her relationship struggles, and even how her perimenopause symptoms were showing up.

✨ Why her open centers made her more susceptible to stress and other people's bullshit

✨ Why her emotional authority meant she couldn’t trust quick decisions (even with her sacral excitement screaming YES!)

✨ Why trying to be 100% sure about the answers was actually keeping her in a death-grip of stuckness

We worked together to rewrite the story of who she thought she had to be.

One session at a time, Denise began to recognize what was hers to carry—and what she could finally put down.

If You’re Nodding Along Right Now, Please Hear This:

You're not broken.

You don’t need to be more grateful. More productive. More “wellness”-obsessed.

You need to understand your unique energy.

Because when you do, the fog starts to lift.

You don’t just treat symptoms.

You start addressing the cause.

You start hearing yourself again.

And that’s when things begin to shift.
